We currently employ around 200 staff in Brisbane and also use external specialists and audit service providers throughout Queensland to deliver our services. 

Internally, we organise our audit specialists into sector-based teams to improve engagement with our clients and our understanding of their organisations.

The executive team leads the implementation of our strategy and the delivery of quality services to our clients.

Executive team

Brendan Worrall

Position:
Auditor-General

Brendan Worrall has extensive experience in senior executive roles in both public practice and the Queensland public sector. Prior to joining QAO, Brendan was the Crowe Horwath Managing Partner for Audit and Assurance across Australia and New Zealand. Brendan’s previous roles in government include Assistant Auditor-General at the Queensland Audit Office and Chief Financial Officer for Queensland Treasury. He is the chief executive and accountable officer for the Queensland Audit Office. Brendan is the 23rd Auditor-General.

Daniele Bird

Daniele Bird

Position:
Deputy Auditor-General

Daniele has extensive professional services experience in Australia and overseas with a focus on improving public and private sector financial sustainability and performance. She is responsible for the delivery of the performance audit program and development of the three-year strategic audit plan.

Poopalasingam Brahman

Assistant Auditor-General

Brahman has extensive experience in public sector auditing. He is responsible for the delivery of the annual program of financial audits and related sector reports to parliament.

Karen has extensive experience in private sector auditing and governance. She is responsible for the delivery of specialist audit services, financial services sector audits and reports to parliament across multiple sectors.

Damon is the Sector Director for Energy and Natural Resources. Major agencies in his portfolio include the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Energy and Water Supply.

Pat Flemming

Pat Flemming is the Sector Director for Local Government. He has over 20 years’ experience in professional employment, including 14 years in the Queensland Public Sector. Prior roles include senior accounting and corporate treasury positions in multinational organisations.

Nick George is the Sector Director for Community Services until October 2018. Major agencies in his portfolio include the Public Safety Business Agency, the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women, the Department of Communities, Disability Services and Seniors, the Department of Justice and Attorney-General, the Queensland Corrective Services, the Department of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, the Queensland Police Service and the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services.

John Welsh will become the Sector Director for Community Services from October 2018. Paul Christensen is the Sector Director for Central Agencies and Financial Services. Major agencies in his portfolio are the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Queensland Treasury, QIC Limited, Queensland Treasury Corporation, QSuper and the Public Trustee of Queensland.

Charles Strickland

Charles is the Sector Director for Health. He is responsible for audits of all Health related agencies in Queensland, including the Department of Health and the 16 Hospital and Health Services Boards.

Michelle Reardon

Education and Housing

Michelle Reardon is the Sector Director for Education and Housing. Major agencies in her portfolio are the Department of Education, the Department of Housing and Public Works, the Department of Innovation, Tourism Industry Development and the Commonwealth Games, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation and the seven public universities across Queensland.

Vaughan Stemmett is the Sector Director for Water and Infrastructure. Major agencies in his portfolio are Seqwater, Queensland Urban Utilities, the Department of Transport and Main Roads, the Department of State Development, Queensland Rail, and all four government owned ports corporations.
