The member requested an audit of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries’ administration of the fire ant eradication program.
We responded to the member on 25 June 2021.
We advised that we will consider the member’s input when we plan and scope our Managing invasive species audit, scheduled for 2023–24 in our Forward work plan 2021–24. This audit will examine how effectively state government entities, including the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries, are managing invasive species.
June 2022 status update – This audit has been brought forward in our Forward work plan 2022–25. Planning for the audit is complete and the audit is now scheduled for tabling in 2022–23. The scope of this audit includes management of fire ants.
Complete. We have completed our audit of this topic. We included the results of our audit in our report Managing invasive species (Report 1: 2023–24). This report was tabled in parliament on 4 July 2023.
