Queensland’s 16 hospital and health service boards oversee the quality and safety of their hospital and health services. They are required to have safety and quality committees. Hospital and health service boards and safety and quality committees have several duties and legislative functions under the Hospital and Health Boards Act 2011 and the Hospital and Health Boards Regulation 2023. Key obligations relate to safety and quality governance arrangements, strategies, improvements, monitoring, workplace culture, and collaboration.
The Department of Health is responsible for setting statewide safety and quality expectations, monitoring performance, and supporting improvements across the health system.
