The entities within Queensland's education sector support individuals across all stages of learning – from early childhood and school through to vocational education, training, and university. Together, they provide the knowledge and skills to prepare individuals for the workforce.

This report analyses the education entities’ financial performance and position and includes assessments of their internal controls, financial performance and sustainability, and asset management. We will also provide insights into how the education system is responding to increased demand, driven by a growing population from interstate and overseas migration.

Each year our report will build on any focus areas from our previous education reports and emerging issues in the education sector. This year, we will focus on the:

  • universities’ ongoing management of historical wage underpayment risk
  • strategies in place at universities and TAFE Queensland to manage their financial sustainability
  • progress by entities on their capital programs and how effectively they are maintaining their assets.

Other areas we may analyse further this year include:

  • governance at universities.
