Hon. Steven Miles MP, Leader of the Opposition and Member for Murrumba
Details

The Leader of the Opposition raised concerns about the recording and reporting of Queensland Police Service (QPS) data.

He requested QAO undertake an urgent review into the reporting, recording and publishing of all victim, offence and offender data captured by QPS, including any changes to police processes that could significantly alter the data that is collected and presented.

Response

We responded to the Leader of the Opposition on 1 April 2026 advising that we will consider the suggested audit in developing QAO’s forward work plan for 2026-29.

This will include obtaining more information about the matters raised to assess the merit of including an audit on our forward work plan. In developing the forward work plan we seek to ensure that we respond to public sector risks by focusing on the right mix of topics across portfolios at the right time.

We will publish our forward work plan for 2026-29 before 30 June 2026.

Update – June 2026

We published our Forward work plan 2026-29 on 29 June 2026. Our plan includes the topic Delivering victim support services, which is scheduled to table in 2027-28. This audit will include QPS within its scope. QPS’ data recording and reporting in relation to victims will be a consideration.
