In Queensland, government owned corporations generate, transmit, and distribute electricity. The supply of affordable, reliable, and sustainable energy is impacted by demand and the mix of energy, including renewable, gas, and coal plants. In 2025, the Queensland Government released the Queensland Energy Roadmap. It outlines a plan for improving existing energy assets and building new ones to meet future demand.
The energy report analyses energy entities’ financial performance, the effectiveness of internal controls, wholesale energy prices, and major events impacting energy entities each year.
Each year our report will build on focus areas from our previous energy reports and emerging issues in the energy sector. This year we will focus on:
- updates on the energy entities’ core business and major activities from the Queensland Energy Roadmap
- insights from the first mandatory climate reporting by Queensland energy entities
- the transfer of energy projects to QIC
- the recoverability of electricity bills in regional Queensland
- major events, which include outages and weather events impacting the financial performance of the energy entities.
We will continue reporting on the following elements in our 2026 report:
- Comparison of wholesale prices between Queensland and other states
- Queensland energy generation mix
- performance against the Electricity Maintenance Guarantee KPI’s.
